While arguing in favour of abolishing capital punishment, the PPP parliamentarians said that it is inhuman to end the life of a person and the death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights. It is the premeditated and cold-blooded killing of a human being by the state in the name of justice. It violates the right to life...It is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.
PML-N parliamentarians strongly rejected the impression that the death penalty is denial of human rights as they were of the view that in the light of Islamic laws the punishment is mandatory and the absolute solution to meet the requirement of the justice. As it is eminent that the capital punishment has been abolished by the majority of democratic countries in the world, but it did not mean that the death penalty has been given up by all the countries of the world. Most of the Asian countries are maintaining the capital punishment.
As usual the blame game continued in the lower house while discussing the law and order situation in the country. A PPP lawmaker pointed out that though there are security issues in all the provinces, Punjab tops the list as far as crime rate is concerned. The opposition leaves no instance for point scoring whether it is vital security of the country or by-elections in Punjab. The opposition PML-N lady stalwart, Tehmina Doltana came harsh on the comments of the PPP lawmaker with the remarks that PPP is holding government in the center as well as in Sindh, but it has miserably failed in controlling the target killing and maintaining law and order as well as security issues, particularly in Karachi and Balochistan.
Senior members across the divide think it more important to stay in their constituencies for preparation of upcoming elections as the days of the incumbent lower house are numbered. They were seldom seen in Monday's proceedings of the House. Leader of the opposition and senior PML-N lawmaker Chaudhry Nisar came to the house for a few minutes and kept quiet during the proceeding of the lower house, but as soon as he left the house he held a marathon speech outside the parliament saying that the opposition would oppose tooth and nail all the law making at this stage, however the treasury benches want to introduce some important pieces of legislation for passage and want to get them through. Let us wait and see what comes out of the bag!
The tone of the opposition was not very receptive especially, on the issue of creation of new provinces in Punjab. They criticised the commission constituted for the creation of new provinces in Punjab saying that the head of the commission belongs to KP and not a single member has been nominated from central Punjab while the provinces will be created in the Punjab.
A resolution was passed unanimously by the House, asking the government to honour Malala Yousafzai who has become a global icon for children's education with the title of 'Daughter of Pakistan.' Malala faced life threats in the militancy-ridden province of KP but did not budge from her stance and ultimately faced the bullet of those who are opposed to an enlightened society.
